As in any fast growing sector, it is essential for the MFIs to adapt, innovate and come up with products in response to the changing needs of the customers, the external environment and the new products being introduced once in a while by the competitors and rivals. Unlike many other sectors, the MFIs directly deal with customers who may not be very clear about their needs or who may not be able to articulate them. This is especially true when new products are not improvements or refinements of an existing product but a new dimension like micro insurance, savings, habitat loans etc. which call for, inter alia, research, surveys and studies.
